This is fantastic! I rather wish someone had given me this sort if advice years ago, as I started largely by attempting to emulate other artists' work and style... ending up reverse-engineering the basics over time. I found that rewarding, and I grasp the basics now (mostly) but I definitely would have had an easier time of it this way. Lol
At any rate, I think this is something all aspiring artists need to be told. For some reason, people think it's cliche to tell them to draw, all the time... this gives that advice the structure and body that it sometimes lacks, and I think this could encourage a lot of people who might otherwise just give up.
The only thing I might add to it is that the stage where you're taking the basic shapes and using them to make more complex things can sometimes be very challenging. Personally, I found it extremely difficult to figure out just how a face, for example, wraps around a sphere. I found that, for me, at least, studying the sketchdumps of various artists, where I could see their raw shapes still outlined faintly in some of their unfinished pieces, was an excellent way to help bridge the gap there and helps understand the relationships between the geometries and the complex bodies they make up.
